Overview of the LUAU
An all evening event. Some allow you to join in on Hawaiian games and crafts, and explore cultural exhibits, as well as a Hawaiian buffet and an entertaining Polynesian review. Many display the removal of the Kalua pig from the `imu, underground oven, where the pig was cooking for a day. Food served at most luaus include tender pig, teriyaki beef, mahi-mahi fish, chicken longrice (it looks like bait, but it's rice noodles in chicken broth with chicken pieces), white rice, poi, sweet potato, rolls, pineapple, and either coconut cake or haupia which is coconut pudding. Don't eat too much coconut. ( It's a natural laxative.) Enjoy pineapple and papaya after meals to assist with digestion. And if you eat too much try a gingersnap or ginger candy or drink a gingerale. Ginger is a natural way to soothe an upset stomach. There are several to choose from. Some are an all day affair, use your time in the islands wisely. Normally 5-9pm. The prices range from roughly $45-$60.
