Kuili'ou'ou Ridge
This hike is one of the finest on the island. It is located just 10 minutes away by car. The view at the top is spectacular. You can see the leeward coast from Koko Head to Honolulu. This hike is just five minutes long so it is perfect for the novice, intermediate and experienced hikers. On this hike you can climb to about 2000 feet above sea level.
It is one of our personal favorites.
Hawai'iloa Ridge
This hike is located in one of the nicest subdivisions on Oahu. The views from the top are of Waimanalo town and bay, and Olomana mountain. This hike is similar to the Kuli'ou'ou hike and the views are comparable. We would recommend either going on this hike or the other, but not both since they are similar. This hike is five miles and the gain in elevation is 1400 feet. This hike is suitable for any level hiker.
Wa'ahila Kolowalu
(St. Louis Heights) this is one of our favorite hikes because of all of the different vegetation on the hike. This hike is 5 miles long and takes about 30 minutes to reach by car. The views are of Downtown, Waikiki, University, and Diamond Head Crater, However finding it is not that easy.
Manoa Falls
The name says it all. You hike to a beautiful waterfall deep within the rainforest. This hike is 1.6 miles and takes around two hours. Anyone can do this hike, it is pretty flat and tends to have a lot of mosquitoes, so bring your repellent and don't forget your swim suite. On a nice day the pool can get pretty deep and is a nice place to swim. The hike is about 30 minutes away by car. Closetothe starting point of the hike we recommend looking at Lyon Arboretum that presents a beautiful variety of tropical vegetation.
Olomana
This is the closest hike to our house, about 8 minutes away by car. This hike is harder than the rest -because the trail is not that wide and at the vary end you have to climb a rock face to get to see the views at the top. There are ropes to assist you, however, you should use them wisely. This hike is for intermediate and experienced hikers. We do not recommend this hike for beginners. The views are beautiful and you really feel like you just climbed a mini Mt. Everest. We recommend this hike but be careful and go slowly.
Diamond Head Crater Park
This is the most famous hike on the island as it is not only a landmark but also an elaborate World War I and II fortress. This hike is 1.4 miles and takes about an hour and a half round trip. The views at the top of the crater are incredible and can be seen on postcards and posters. It is extremely crowded and hot, so the earlier you get there the better. The park opens at 7:00am and closes at 6:00pm so be sure to give yourself time to look at the views.
Towards the end of the hike you will come across a short flight of steps, followed by a long dark tunnel which will lead you to a flight of 99 steps. Keep on going as you will almost be there. This hike is well worth the work!
The hike is about 30 minutes away by car.
Pauli trail
Coming down form Honolulu on Pauli Hwy, go through two tunnels coming down towards the windward side (east side) go about 1 or 2miles past the tunnels, there will be a very long left curve; in the beginning of the curve you will see a parking area to your right (scenic point) park your car and follow the little path back up the hill. Once you get up the hill there is a hike starting to the left towards Waimanalo- it goes for nine miles, but you can turn around at any point.
